Beck et al cover California Classics

“Echo in the Canyon” tribute concerts at Los Angeles’ Orpheum Theatre featured classic California artists (The Beach Boys, The Byrds, Love, Buffalo Springfield, etc) covered by Beck, Fiona Apple, Cat Power, Regina Spektor and Jade (formerly of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros). Jakob Dylan lead the house band that played with all these artists. An “Echo in the Canyon” album has been announced for spring 2016 (also note that last night was professionally filmed, suggesting a DVD may also be in the works). Until then, get a taste of Beck tackling The Byrds’ “Goin’ Back” and “The Bells Of Rhymney” and  The Mamas and The Papas’ “Monday, Monday” courtesy of Vinod Shankar, creator of Beck megasite whiskeyclone.net. Vinod also shared the setlist and noted in the whiskeyclone facebook group that the bassist in the house band was Dan Rothchild, who played bass on Beck’s 2005 Guero tour.
