And the festival updates continue…
Bonnaroo is teaming up with Sonicbids to offer two performance slots at this year’s fest. The contest is open to all artists with the winner set to be picked by Billboard and Wayne Coyne. In addition to the thrill of playing a world renown music festival, the selected artist will get paid $1,000, be awarded two VIP tickets to the festival and receive a full-page bio on the official Bonnaroo website and a full-page spread in Billboard Magazine! Even if you’re not selected this could be a sweet deal: all applicants are entered to win two VIP tickets! Artists have until 11:59pm ET Friday, April 25th to apply! There’s a $10 entry fee, of which its net proceeds will be donated directly to the Bonnaroo Works Fund.
Great news for music fans that are not making the trek to Indio California for Coachella this month: both of its 2014 festival will be broadcast, the first weekend (April 11-13) on YouTube and the second (April 18-20) on cable channel AXS TV for 20 hours. KCRW Music Director Jason Bentley will host the broadcasts for both weekends, introducing and interviewing artists.
Besides full sets from the top artists, expect behind-the-scenes footage. On the other hand if you’re attending either weekend a lot of fun is in store. In addition to a lineup that features Beck and Arcade Fire et al, Coachella is going all out in 2014 with games and activities. There’s a pie eating contest, dodgeball, limbo, pinball, “Berlin style ping pong party,” a joke contest, relay races, a 3 legged race, 4 corners, Simon Says, and “Rock Paper Scissors – The Championship.” There’s even a snowball fight on the schedule! Also planned: a “beauty bar,” “Coachella Art studios,” a photo booth, yoga, massage, a Record Store Day shop, and much more.
This morning Glastonbury revealed its initial lineup for 2014 festival on June 27th – 29th in Pilton, UK: Arcade Fire, Jack White, and Kasabian headline alongside The Black Keys, Robert Plant, Dolly Parton, Lily Allen, and Skrillex.
Also on the bill: MGMT, Mogwai, Pixies, Midlake, M.I.A., Phosphorescent, Massive Attack, James Blake, Interpol, Disclosure, Manic Street Preachers, Angel Haze, Bryan Ferry, Sam Smith, Lana Del Rey, Foster the People, Warpaint, Chromeo, CHVRCHES, Danny Brown, Jamie xx, Chance the Rapper, De La Soul, Goldfrapp, tUnE-yArDs and others. Many more acts are still to be announced, including the final headliner. Tickets to the festival are already sold out, though a resale will take place Thursday, April 24th for those that previously registered.
