Filming Complete For John Brandon Novel ‘Arkansas’ Movie Adaption By Clark Duke Starring Liam Hemsworth And Vince Vaughn – Including A Cameo By The Flaming Lips

Filming has wrapped for a movie adaptation of John Brandon’s debut novel Arkansas. The Southern Gothic thriller stars Liam Hemsworth as Kyle and Clark Duke as Swin, a pair of “low level drug runners in the Dixie Mafia” under the “orders of an Arkansas-based drug kingpin named Frog” (Vince Vaughn), as described in the film’s PR synopsis. Clark Duke – a real life Glenwood, Arkansas native best known for his roles in The Office, Hot Tub Time Machine and the Kick-Ass movies – also wrote the screenplay for Arkansas, and it will mark his directorial debut. Filming began late last October in Alabama with a supporting cast featuring John Malkovich, Vivica A. Fox, Michael Kenneth Williams and others (see the cast credits on IMBD). Additional filming was completed in Arkansas, including scenes at Maxine’s Live, a self-described “former brothel in downtown of Hot Spring [that] has since become one of the state’s favorite bars and music venues.”

Arkansas will feature a performance by The Flaming Lips. Wayne Coyne teased their cameo on Instagram last November 16th along with a short video of them “recording a George Jones cover (for secret movie scene …shhh..).” One of the extras in the film, Erica Trusty, shared photos on November 19th from the Maxine’s Live shoot, noting the performance by The Lips:

“Sooo….my afternoon was kind of cool:) Got to be an extra in Clark Duke’s film, ‘Arkansas,’ and shoot a scene at Maxine’s- I ended up being the stand-in for lead actress Eden Brolin’s character which was totally random and surreal! Oh, and The Flaming Lips were the band performing…. #nobigdeal #madedirecteyecontactwithLiamHemsworth #whereismySAGcard”

Anticipated for an early 2020 release, post-production editing and theatrical release planning is currently underway.
