Peace and Punk Rock Summer 2011 Tour Dates: Flaming Lips

Yesterday Psych Exploration of the Future Heart set the record straight on much of the misinformation reported by various websites in the past week concerning The Flaming Lips Soft Bulletin Live 2011 plans.  The full corrections and clarifications are posted here, among them:

a) The Flaming Lips have recorded a live The Soft Bulletin but are not revealing where or when it was recorded (Coyne: “the mystery is part of the appeal”).  The suggestion that they will record a live album this summer at their Bulletin gigs is completely unfounded – it’s already recorded…

b) Strawberry Gummy Skulls with marijuana-flavored brains containing autographed USBs holding this Soft Bulletin live recording – and music videos they shot at SUNY Fredonia for two of its songs (“Race for the Prize” and “What is the Light?”) have been on sale since last Thursday at ticketfly in two-day Hollywood Forever Cemetery pass packages.  As of yesterday afternoon they were almost sold out.  Tickets without the skull are also available.  This Gummy Skull will be issued at Hollywood Forever Cemetery – thus the “release date” for The Soft Bulletin live recording and videos is June 14th or 15th.

c) Pitchfork and other have stated or implied their Soft Bulletin live Gummy Skull will be released separately for fans not attending the Hollywood Forever Cemetery gigs.  There has been no indication this is the case.  Though this could change, SUNY Fredonia’s newspaper, Fredonia Leader, quoted Wayne at the film shoot saying“We’re doing this [Soft Bulletin live video shoot] exclusively for the show we’re doing in The Cemetery in Hollywood.  I kind of thought it would be cool…”

d) Most significantly, I posted the eight shows at which The Flaming Lips are performing The Soft Bulletin.  Every other website I’ve come across has listed shows the band is not playing this album at as such, and/or vice versa (and few of these websites agree with each other, leading to much confusion on which are and aren’t Soft Bulletin shows).  In compiling this list – reposted at the bottom of this post – I personally checked with a member of The Flaming Lips three times in the past two weeks.

Adding to these definitive Soft Bulletin tour dates – via a poster (shown below) linked in The Flaming Lips’ above embedded tweet – we now have a complete list of Flaming Lips 2011 summer shows – dubbed “Peace and Punk Rock Summer 2011 Tour“.  The newly announced shows – and specific dates of previously announced festival appearances are in bold.  The list below apparently completes The Flaming Lips tour schedule for summer 2011.

UPDATE May 11 ...it looks like The Flaming Lips are devising a new space bubble introduction to start their shows on these dates:

  1. I just want to commend you on your efforts on setting the record straight. It takes some work to follow the Flips, but that assures the real fans are there. Still, I was hoping you could clarify something from your last post. I thought you said the band is playing the entire Darkside of the Moon somewhere. What are those dates?

  4. Sorry Patrick – I don’t know. That poster was just finished last week, so I’d assume maybe in June or so they will sell them at shows or online or something. But I really can’t say for sure…

  5. Another name for the tour is the “In Our Bodies, Out of Our Heads Summer 2011 Tour,” which is on the back of the tour t-shirt.

The front of the shirt has Wayne’s twitter profile photo covered by little skulls to make it look like a sheet of blotter.
