Over the past week The National, Sam Cohen and Lee Ranaldo have shared photos of their recording sessions underway for a collaborative Grateful Dead tribute album that’s been planned since 2011 with members of Vampire Weekend, The War on Drugs, Bon Iver, The Walkmen and Kurt Vile & the Violators previously linked to the project. Yesterday Cohen confirmed on facebook the involvement at this past week’s sessions of Will Oldham aka Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, Kristian Matsson Matsson aka The Tallest Man on Earth, Yo La Tengo’s Ira Kaplan, The Walkman’s bassist/ organist Walter Martin, Sam Amidon, Conrad Doucette and Cohen’s former Yellowbirds bandmate Josh Kaufman. Other photos show Cass McCombs and the most trusted name in Dead covers: Joe Russo of Furthur and Joe Russo’s Almost Dead.

UPDATE – On February 26th Kanye was interviewed on BBC Radio 1. “I never said [Beck] is not an artist,” he insisted. “Everybody has a right to be wrong…When I was ironically having diner with Taylor Swift, the Beck song starts playing and I was like, ‘Wow this is really good. Maybe I might have be wrong.'” Later that night Kanye publicly apologized to Beck on twitter.
