Over the past week The National, Sam Cohen and Lee Ranaldo have shared photos of their recording sessions underway for a collaborative Grateful Dead tribute album that’s been planned since 2011 with members of Vampire Weekend, The War on Drugs, Bon Iver, The Walkmen and Kurt Vile & the Violators previously linked to the project. Yesterday Cohen confirmed on facebook the involvement at this past week’s sessions of Will Oldham aka Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, Kristian Matsson Matsson aka The Tallest Man on Earth, Yo La Tengo’s Ira Kaplan, The Walkman’s bassist/ organist Walter Martin, Sam Amidon, Conrad Doucette and Cohen’s former Yellowbirds bandmate Josh Kaufman.
