“With little kids…if you’re interesting and you’re creative and you’re optimistic, if we’re lucky …the kids that are around you will hopefully, you know, think that that’s something they’d like to be as well”
-Wayne Coyne, Noise Pop Podcast March 29, 2006 “Question and Answer with The Flaming Lips and Director Bradley Beesley”
The rumor that The Flaming Lips will appear on Nick Jr. kid’s show Yo Gabba Gabba! (previously mentioned in PsychExFutureHeart’s Oct 15, 2009 blog entry Yes Yes Yes: So Embryonic It’s All Right) has come to fruition, as has the prediction they’d play “I Can Be Frog.” No broadcast date has surfaced yet and image searches on Google, Bing, Yahoo and Altavista have yielded nada thus far… but there’s a stupendously silly picture of the Flaming four geared up (think “Spongebob& Patrick Confront The Psychic Wall Of Energy” video costumes) and playing with the Gabba! cast on page 29 of the current issue of Rolling Stone (1096). [UPDATE: the photographer, Ben Clark, posted this photo on his January 15, 2010 blog, uncropped and with a brief explanation…also shown below. Check out his blog, he has lots of fun pictures!]. Devo, The Killers, Weezer and Weird Al are also scheduled to appear on season three of the show, set to première Jan 16, 2009.
Since the start of its first season in August 2007 Yo Gabba Gabba! has garnered a reputation for having some of the most amusing music segments on television… not just for youngins, but for kids of all ages: Biz Markie and Devo’s Mark Mothersbaugh have regular segments on the show; animation sequences have used music by Low, Jason Lytle (formerly of Grandaddy), Enon, Of Montreal, The Bird and the Bee and The Apples in Stereo; and previous guests include The Shins, Elijah Wood, Jack Black, Cornelius, The Ting Tings, Mates Of State, The Rootsand MGMT. With the Lips now on board and no signs of its vibrant guest list coming to a halt, a question begs: has Yo Gabba Gabba! become the most wonderfully musical – and just maddest fun – children’s show ever?

Thanks for the kind words! Still no announced air date for the Lips on Gabba (this will have to hold us over http://pitchfork.com/news/38158-video-of-montreal-perform-new-song-on-kids-show-yo-gabba-gabba/ )…but there’s much more coming to this blog, as well as twitter.com/FutureHeartDay (quotes, lyrics and songs of the day, everyday), http://www.youtube.com/user/psychexfutureheart, myspace.com/psychexfutureheart and other web goodies all leading up to the publication of Psych Explorations of the Future Heart.
