Al Novey (aka The Tallest Man in Oklahoma City, aka @drunkfred) and The Flaming Lips’ musical mastermind Steven Drozd go under the side-project moniker You In Me. In July they shot their first video at OKC bar Juniors – the Neil-Diamond-via-karoake instant classic homage “The Drifter.” According to George Salsibury’s Delo Creative’s upload of the video on August 11th, “When an illustrious rock star and a golden-throated karaoke phenom are brought together by an insatiable love for Neil Diamond, the result is “You in Me.” It’s a collaboration so heartfelt, an homage so genuine, and a tribute to love in all it’s forms.” Look for George’s cameo in the video (now we know he can always vacuum bars if this “visual generalist” thing doesn’t work out for him…)
You In Me followed one week later with “Hot Coffee (And Mornin’ Lovin’)” – also filmed by Delo Creative. Both songs were recorded at at QCC Studios, executive produced by George and issued in September on Flights of Fancy (You in Me’s self-created record company) as a “double A-side” 45 (well, technically “The Drifter” is listed as the flip-side).
This 7″ single can also be won from The Future Heart Dwelling Spaces’ Neil Diamond Video Impersonation Contest – along with a Flaming Lips Strobo Toy, a bag of coffee (pun intended), and a vintage Diamond LP. The entire grand prize package is estimated at nearly $100. These generous prizes come from Dwelling Spaces – “like” Dwelling Spaces on facebook.
Contest deadline November 9th.
