November 6th/16th (previews/ opening night) – Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots (world premier musical) – La Jolla Playhouse, San Diego California
La Jolla Playhouse and acclaimed director Des McAnuff are getting set for the November 6, 2012 world-premiere previews of their latest work, The Flaming Lips’ Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots.
One of the most anticipated American musicals to open this year, this ambitious technological production will include light projections, singing, dancing, a live rock band, and ten robots that “interact with projections in a way people haven’t seen before,” according to Playhouse artistic director Christopher Ashley. Based on The Flaming Lips’ beloved 2002 album of the same name, Ashley says for this theatrical adaptation McAnuff and Wayne Coyne “have created this much more extensive narrative that jumps off the album like a trampoline.”
Opening night is November 16th and the show runs for exactly one month after. As previously posted by The Future Heart tickets have been on sale since this summer. All shows are still available here. The Future Heart has also been discussing free and discounted ticket options with La Jolla: “if you hang 25 posters, you get two free tickets to see YOSHIMI in the first week.” Details are here.
A free ticket give-away will be announced this weekend at facebook.com/TheFutureHeart.
