Polyphonic Spree Recording Live Album/DVD on May 23rd – Plus, Updates on “You+Me” Tour with New Fumes

For the holidays last year, The Polyphonic Spree got the band, uh – fragile armyback together.  Throughout  2012 Tim DeLaughter and co. have been touring for the first time in four years, and on May 23rd they’ll record their first ever live album at New York’s Webster Hall…
…oh yeah, a live DVD of the event will be filmed too…

   … and there’s a free after party….

To announce the concerts at the start of the year they posted a video soundtracked by their new single, “What Would You Do” – watch below (or, check out this video to hear the same song played from the acetate).  The song is now available from Good Records Recordings’ webstore both digitally (as MP3 and FLAC) and on vinyl (as a standard black 7″ and a limited-edition colored version with a numbered silkscreened cover).  The Spree also held a contest for fans to create a music video for “What Would You Do” and pronounced the winner with the video video premier on Valentine’s day (along with the announcement of Phase 2 tour dates, followed by a great career-spanning montage Phase 2 video trailer on February 27th).

Here’s the latest updates: the Spree are winding down the final leg of the tour and made yet another video to publicize these East Coast Phase 3 dates.  Hear Tim discuss the tour and the band at length here.  They want YOU to help spread both this video and fliers for the individual shows.  New Fumes – aka Daniel Huffman, formerly a member of the Polyphonic army whom you may also recognize from the Flaming Lips’ latest music video –  is opening all Phase 3 dates, as he did for Phase 1 and 2.  Oh, and by the way, fellow Dallas musician Erykah Badu recently said Huffman looks “like a white, handsome Michael Jackson.”  Just thought you might like to know…

Watch the “You + Me” Tour Phase 3 video and a behind-the-scenes “Heart of Gold” rehearsal above.  Below are the aforementioned Phase 1 (South/Southeast; 2/6-2/16) and Phase 2 (West/Northwest; 3/29-4/12) trailers followed by the printed dates for Phase 3 with links for fliers individualized for each show.  The Spree kindly request you, “print lots of copies and hang them in local record stores, coffee shops, etc. If you take a few pics of you hanging the posters, email them to goodrecordsrecordings@yahoo.com and we’ll send you an exclusive Nevada Hill/Polyphonic Spree print or something else cool!”

As previously discussed here, the official “What Would You Do” music video is the winner of a fan film contest premiered on Valentine’s Day.  Here’s messages from the band announcing the contest and the winner:

vimeo/whatwouldyoudo: “We want YOU to help us make a video… We may possibly make a composite/montage of several of the clips; in that case every video we use will win the prize package…If we choose your video, you’ll get 2 tickets to The Polyphonic Spree show of your choice, a tour t-shirt, an autographed limited edition 7”, and you get to meet Tim and the rest of the Polys after the show. In the event The Polyphonic Spree don’t make it to the neck of your woods by the end of 2012 we will send you an alternate handmade item from members of the band as well as the shirt and autographed LTD. 7”…Every entry will receive an exclusive Nevada Hill limited edition art print signed by Tim DeLaughter whether your clip is used or not…Final deadline for entry/upload is Saturday February 11, 2012 at Midnight cst… Interpret the song how it moves you…we want EVERYONE to participate from the professional filmmaker all the way down to a 3 year old with an ipod touch…..download the song via goodrecordsrecordings.com for your edit or just have it playing loud in the background as you film your magnum opus. We can sync it to the master of the song down the road. We are looking for your originality, creativity, and enthusiasm as inspired by the song “What Would You Do?”

facebook.com/polyphonicspreeFirst off, CONGRATULATIONS to all of you who put your imaginations into action! That in itself, especially these days, is a feat and accomplishment in itself! It’s been completely inspiring to witness humans in all walks of life take advantage of the opportunity to create. It wasn’t an easy decision to pick a “winner”! There were so many suprises and more importantly, an enormous amount of interpretations that, at times, took the song/lyric and feel beyond original intent. That’s where it’s AT….you, the fans, being heard by The Polyphonic Spree. It was a chance for us to focus on YOU! Thank you!  Ben Rowe’s was chosen after much deliberation.”
