Jack White’s Third Man Records Previews Record Store Day 2017 Releases Including New Book On The Label’s “Blue Series”

Over the last week Jack White‘s Third Man Records has taken to all forms of social media to preview the label’s Record Store Day 2017 releases. Most notably is a new book titled “The Blue Series: The Story Behind The Color” and authored by Ben Blackwell. As its name suggests, it documents Third Man’s Blue Series releases, including exclusive music from Beck, Courtney Barnett, Alabama Shakes’ Brittany Howard and more. Leave it to Jack to release a book on the one day a year seemingly ever band issues vinyl, though it’s actually a vinyl release as well: it comes with a 7″ single featuring two unreleased tracks by First Aid Kit and Butthole Surfers’ Gibby Haynes – another reason it’s among the most anticipated Record Store Day 2017 releases.

Also on Record Store Day Third Man is reissuing a classic from Jack’s Detroit garage rock roots: Bob Seger System’s ‘2+2=?’ on yellow 7″ vinyl b/w ‘Ivory.’ Jack discussed the record – and emphasized his preference for Bob Seger System over more famous Seger records of later years – in an interview with Nardwuar in 2002:

Also coming from Third Man on Record Store Day: Lillie Mae special edition vinyl on gold 7″ and smoke 12″ vinyl, and Jack White’s latest single, “Battle Cry” as a 7-inch on gold vinyl and an assortment of merch (preview above); and at their Nashville store they’ll have free live music and events all day. All proceeds of record sales from “Battle Cry” will be donated to the Native Wellness Institute. It is  currently available digitally.
