Flaming Lips “Oczy Mlody” Tour Dates

The Flaming Lips are hitting the road next year in support of their forthcoming album Oczy Mlody. The tour begins January 21, 2017 – a week after the album drops – with the first of two consecutive nights at London’s 02 Brixton Academy, and continues through the rest of the month and into February visiting Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Holland, Italy, Switzerland, France and Belgium. North American dates follow in March and April 2017. The shows announced so far are mostly East Coast (Boston, Philadelphia, DC, New Haven, Manhattan, Toronto, Charlotte, Raleigh, Atlanta), though this leg extends as far midwest as Detroit, and as far South as Nashville and Florida. Additional legs of the tour are still to be announced. It maybe worth noting, or maybe not – time will tell – that the dates announced so far end right before Coachella… Coincidence? Either way, expect West Coast shows, festival appearances and the unexpected in 2017.

In advance of next year’s tour the Lips will be playing a special hometown show at Oklahoma City’s The Criterion on December 16, 2016. This will mark their first performance in Oklahoma since headlining/hosting 2013’s “Rock for Oklahoma” tornado victims benefit, and their first full concert in the state since 2012’s legendary “Freak Night” at the Zoo Amphitheatre (streaming here). According to Lips drummer/multi-instrumentalist Matt Duckworth the band will be “trying out some new stuff” – presumably songs from Oczy Mlody – and frontman Wayne Coyne says they’ll debut their “new show” at The Criterion. “Having their first show in Oklahoma City in years and in our first year, as a venue, is an incredible show for us, and one we have dreamed of since beginning the planning for The Criterion,” Levelland Productions chief operating officer Scott Marsh said in a statement, as reported by News OK.
