Beck Debuts “Colors” And Tributes Tom Petty At Surprise Album Release Show In London

On the eve of releasing his new album Colors Beck played an intimate, sold-out show at London’s Electric Ballroom. “Think of tonight as a celebration,” Beck explained towards the start of the concert. “We’re gonna start slow – think of us as opening for ourselves,” Beck said alluding to Colors’ release – just a few hours away – as the main attraction. Indeed there was an album Colors listening party immediately after the concert.

The career-spanning setlist worked towards Colors dropping with four songs from the new album, including the live debut of the title-track. Led by Jason Falkner, Beck and his band also paid tribute to Tom Petty with a snippet of ‘American Girl’ during the band introductions in the middle of marathon encore ‘Where It’s At’ (other covers also teased: Talking Heads’ ‘Once In A Lifetime’ and The Clash’s ‘London Calling’).
