Mercury Rev with the Tilburg Conservatorium Orchestra at Netherlands’ Incubate Festival

Mercury Rev – September 18, 2015

Incubate Festival – Theaters Tilburg, Netherlands

Merucry Rev marked the release of The Light in You – their first album of this decade – by playing an exclusive set with the Tilburg Conservatorium Orchestra at Netherlands’ Incubate. Making use of their opportunity to perform with an orchestra they opened with Neil Young’s Harvest classic “A Man Needs a Maid,” closed with All Is Dream’s triumphant “The Dark Is Rising” and featured several songs from their symphonic masterwork Deserter’s Song: “The Funny Bird,” “Tonite It Shows,” “Endlessly,” “Holes,” “Opus 40.” Among the many other highlights frontman Jonathan Donahue told tales of his time in The Flaming Lips, leading into a cover of his former band’s “Love Yer Brain” that segued into the chorus of John Cale’s “Paris 1919;” they dug out Yerself Is Steam anthem “Car Wash Hair;” covered Sparklehorse’s “Sea of Teeth,” and spotlighted three songs from their new album: “The Queen of Swans,” “Autumn’s in the Air” and “Central Park East.” All the videos that have surfaced online are below (special thanks to KoenG’ for the great footage of the new material and the Lips cover!)
