Higgins – a contemporary New York rock band with a classic sound – have a new LP: Straight A’s. As its title and vintage-yearbook-photo album cover suggest, the music within would fit seamlessly on retro high school shows like Freaks and Geeks or That ’70s Show. The video trailer for the album (above) goes one step further by using actual high school pictures of Kiss’ Gene Simmons, Bruce Springsteen, Blondie’s Debbie Harry and others.
….And thus sparked the idea for this pop quiz, uh, game:
Match the musicians’ names numbered below with their high school photo underneath (slide your mouse over the photo for its letter). To start things off, the photo above left is Flaming Lip Wayne Coyne circa 1978… and, yes, he’s wearing an Emerson, Lake and Palmer T-shirt)…
1. Debbie Harry (Blondie)
2. Stephen Malkmus (Pavement, solo, Jicks)
3. Conor Oberst (Bright Eyes)
4. Bruce Springsteen
5. Iggy Pop (Stooges, solo)
6. Jim Morrison (The Doors)
7. Kirk Hammett (Metallica)
8. Gene Simmons (KISS)
9. Vincent Furnier (aka Alice Cooper)
10. Brian Warner (aka Marilyn Manson)
11. Janis Joplin (Big Brother and The Holding Company, solo)
